The Jayhawks will go Saturday-Friday, as UNLV heads to Kansas City to take on KU on Friday night. Both teams played this past Saturday, with KU losing to Illinois on the road and UNLV defeating Utah Tech at home. The last time KU played on a short week was when KU took on Boston College in Chestnut Hill off the back of a loss to Coastal Carolina. KU beat Boston college, 48-24, on the short week.The Jayhawks have tweaked their practice schedule this time around to best prepare for the game. According to Lance Leipold, KU arrived back at the facility early on Sunday morning, around 2 a.m. CT. He said KU practiced on Sunday night in order to start preparing for the Friday night game. Sunday is typically a day off for players, but this time KU took the practice field."Yesterday's [practice was] probably what you thought," Leipold said. "Still highly disappointed and tired and the body's not feeling great. I don't have any concerns about effort and attitude kind of going through what it is on a week like this."Leipold said Sunday's practice wasn't a full contact practice."Kind of did a run-through, call it a walk-through, getting some stuff introduced," Leipold said.On Monday, KU went to spider pads, which is what the Jayhawks wear during the first days of camp.As KU wrapped up its second practice of the week, Leipold said he was pleased with what his team showed."I thought today we just got off the field and without talking to the coordinators yet, it was a solid day effort-wise," Leipold said. "And you're still trying to get your scout teams organized on the shorter thing. But I'm proud of the group for where we're at leadership-wise because we don't have a lot of options right now. We got to go."KU will transition to a fully padded practice on Tuesday and Leipold said how KU handles practice on Wednesday will be determined later.As the Jayhawks prepares for its final non-conference game of the season, the KU head coach received a message from a fellow Big 12 coach."Chris Klieman did text me today to talk about it because they got the same thing," Leipold said. "They just had an earlier time slot [on Saturday]. But we're both dealing, in this state, with short weeks. He was kind of chuckling because our time in the MAC as a staff kind of prepares you for some of these practice models. But it's usually in November, not September."The contest between UNLV will begin at 6 p.m. CT with the game being televised on ESPN.
