Under new head coach <a href="https://247sports.com/Coach/chris-beard-3808/">Chris Beard</a>, Ole Miss went undefeated against its non-conference slate, coming away with five victories decided by three points or fewer to go 13-0. The team got off to a decent start in SEC play, going 5-4 to remain a contender for an NCAA tournament berth. The Rebels won just two of their last 11 games, however, finishing the season at 7-11 in conference play and falling to Texas A&amp;M in their first game of the league tourney.Beard kept a core group of players from last year's roster and retooled the team with several notable transfers and freshmen.The offense will still be centered around returning senior guard Matthew Murrell, who improved tremendously as a shooter last season and led Ole Miss in scoring for the second year in a row with 16.2 points per game. Beard also retained senior point guard Jaylen Murray, who led the team averaging 4.0 assists, who'll compete with Virginia Tech transfer Sean Pedulla, a high-usage guard who was the Hokies' top option last season and brings a bit more size than the 5-foot-11 Murray. Returning junior TJ Caldwell and three-star freshman Eduardo Klafke will make up the rest of the backcourt rotation and also have the size to slide up to the wing if needed.Seton Hall transfer Dre Davis should be able to step into the starting three spot after a strong season as a full-time starter with the Pirates. Sam Houston State transfer Davon Barnes, who made 39.1% of his triples last year on 4.6 attempts per game, will vy for the backup role behind Davis along with returning sophomore Robert Cowherd.Returning senior Jaemyn Brakefield and transfers Mikeal Brown-Jones and Malik Dia are all in a heat for the last two remaining starting spots in the front court. Brakefield brings the most SEC experience of the three and has been an efficient secondary scorer as a stretch four during his three years at Ole Miss. Brown-Jones was a star player at <a href="https://247sports.com/college/uncg/">UNC Greensboro</a>, helping the Spartans go 21-11 while leading the team with 18.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game and shooting 43.1% from deep, but is a little undersized as a center in the SEC at 6-foot-8, 225 pounds. Dia brings the most size of the group at 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds, is an active rebounder and shot-blocker and flashed range out to the 3-point line last year at Belmont, but also had the highest usage rating of any player in the country according to KenPom and wasn't especially efficient with his touches. At 7-foot-2 and 210 pounds, four-star freshman John Bol will see minutes at the backup center spot but will need to add strength to gain a more significant role. Hampton transfer Ja'Von Benson, who previously played at <a href="https://247sports.com/college/south-carolina/">South Carolina</a> and started 15 games for the Pirates last year, will provide experience and depth.Both Beard and <a href="https://247sports.com/college/missouri/">Missouri</a> head coach <a href="https://247sports.com/Coach/dennis-gates-1272/">Dennis Gates</a> will be motivated to reach the NCAA tournament this season. Their matchup in late January could play a big role in the conference seedings.</div></body>
