Kentucky breaches ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25
Way-Too-Early Top 25 for the 2024-25 season, one that now includes Kentucky. The Wildcats check in at No. 23. "Mark Pope's first roster in Lexington will look drastically different from most of his predecessor's teams. Out are the five-star freshmen, in are a slew of prolific 3-point shooters to stretch defenses," wrote ESPN's Jeff Borzello. "Jaxson Robinson ultimately followed his former coach from BYU and he's the best addition, playing himself onto NBA draft boards despite coming off the bench. Robinson is joined by Koby Brea (Dayton), Otega Oweh (Oklahoma), Kerr Kriisa (West Virginia) and Andrew Carr (Wake Forest) as high-level shooters, while Lamont Butler (San Diego State) and Amari Williams (Drexel) bring defensive prowess."

What's at stake: Former Illini to compete in NBA Summer League
Illinois is gradually growing its NBA presence. The proud program went nine years between NBA Draft picks (Meyers Leonard in 2012 to Ayo Dosunmu in 2021) and 12 years between first-round NBA Draft picks (Leonard in 2012 to Terrence Shannon Jr. in 2024). But Illinois has had two top-40 draft picks during the last two seasons, and ESPN recently projected two Illini newcomers, Kasparas Jakucionis and Will Riley, to go in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft. Plus, more Illini are recently receiving chances to compete for NBA roster spots.

The purple and gold enter year three with McMahon's best collection of talent on paper to date and with that comes expectations of competing for an NCAA tournament berth. This is a time in the evolution of the program where LSU wants to see tangible progress and after hovering around .500 in league play last season, controlling the non-conference portion of the schedule and possibly creeping into that double digit win mark in SEC play is the goal for the 2024-25 Tigers.
