New Off-Leash Dog Park & Social Club Coming to Kirkwood
22 days ago
A new off-leash dog park -- which also includes a social club, restaurant, and pet care facility -- is coming soon to Atlanta's Kirkwood neighborhood, and it's going to change the way you think about dog parks!
Skiptown Coming to Kirkwood
Skiptown, the upscale off-leash dog park, social club, restaurant, and pet care concept, has released the first renderings of its upcoming Atlanta location -- and it looks amazing! (See them below.) The 39,200-square-foot facility will open this fall in Atlanta’s Kirkwood neighborhood at 200 Arizona Ave NE, offering residents a concept that caters to both dogs and pet parents.
The first Skiptown location opened in Charlotte, NC in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic, and now, after four successful years in Charlotte, the team is excited to bring the concept to Atlanta.
“We always knew that we wanted to open a Skiptown in Atlanta,” said Skiptown Founder and CEO Meggie Williams. “We love the city, and we really felt like Skiptown would resonate with the community here. Our team visited a lot, and we put a great deal of effort into getting the location right. When we came across Kirkwood, we immediately fell in love with the neighborhood. We toured over 60 sites, and this location instantly drew us in. It's an amazing, vibrant, diverse little pocket of such an incredible city, and we're excited to become a part of it.”
The building that houses Skiptown is a former warehouse, converted and repurposed to serve as the perfect space for pups and their people. While the building was remodeled, the Skiptown team prioritized keeping the authenticity of the space, preserving many of the building’s original murals. The team also lowered its environmental impact on the area, removing dying trees and replanting 21 trees during construction.
For the Pups
Skiptown features 23,000 square feet of indoor space, including indoor off-leash areas! Skiptown's outdoor social yard, which includes a splash pad area, is 13,000 square feet, and the pet care play yards occupy 3,200 square feet of space. Parking is available in a lot behind the building with over 60 spaces.
Williams created Skiptown as a solution for pet parents who spend a lot of time working and for those who live in smaller spaces like apartments or townhomes. She worked in dog care for a number of years prior to creating Skiptown and would often face concerns from pet parents who worried that their dogs weren't happy while they were at work, or that they didn't have enough space for their dogs to flourish and live the best life possible.
Skiptown is an all-encompassing, one-stop shop for dogs and pet parents, combining the playtime elements of an elevated dog park with a variety of pet care services, including daycare, boarding, grooming, dog training, and more. The dog daycare and overnight boarding facility includes padded flooring, a state-of-the-art dog grooming salon, and a dog training studio.
Skiptown also offers valet dog daycare drop-off and 24-hour supervised, overnight care. Daycare clients can book appointments, upload vet records, view their dog’s visit reports, and customize their dog’s routine and preferences all in the Skiptown app, alleviating worry and creating an easier experience for pet parents.
For (Human) Pup Parents
In addition to the dog park and pet care services, Skiptown was also created to be a social experience for people.
The facility features a restaurant and social club, where pet parents can enjoy cocktails, wine, local beers, a coffee bar, and food. The menu will feature breakfast options like sandwiches, croissants, and muffins, all-day items like empanadas and “Paw-tater” tots, sweet and savory snacks like frozen treats and jerky, and even pet treats, including pup cups and dog “beer” bone broth.
“We wanted Skiptown to cater to both the needs of dogs and pet parents,” said Williams. “Most places either do one or the other, and it's difficult to find a place that truly provides an enjoyable, premium experience for dogs and the humans who love them at the same time. Skiptown fills that gap in an incredible way and gives pet parents a place where their dogs can play and be well taken care of, while they enjoy food, drinks, and socialize with other dog lovers.”
Skiptown Atlanta is now offering a limited supply of discounted VIP and founding memberships online at skiptown.io/atlanta-ga. While pet parents don't have to be members to enjoy Skiptown, VIP members do receive exclusive discounts, access to members-only events, and unlimited entry to the restaurant and social club.
Founding Members will have their dog’s portrait featured in a permanent mural in the facility. Skiptown is located at 200 Arizona Ave NE. It is expected to open in Fall 2024.
