The Astros optioned left-handed reliever Parker Mushinski to Triple A Sugar Land, the team announced Wednesday.

To take his place on the active roster, Houston selected right-hander Nick Hernandez, a Houston-area native who they recently acquired from the San Diego Padres, to the Major League roster. Hernandez is from Missouri City and attended Dulles High School.

To make room for Hernandez on the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred starter José Urquidy (right forearm strain) to the 60-day injured list.

Urquidy is having season-ending surgery on his right elbow, as is Cristian Javier. Both surgeries are scheduled for the next two days, dealing a major blow to Houston's pitching staff.
