Three Astros are among the positional leaders for Major League Baseball's 2024 All-Star game.
Second baseman Jose Altuve, designated hitter Yordan Alvarez and right fielder Kyle Tucker have all been All-Stars before, and it looks like they will do it again this season.
The 2024 MLB All-Star Ballot presented by BuildSubmarines.com, will be accessible until the voting period for Phase 1 concludes at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday, June 27. On that date, the top two vote-getters at each position (and the top six outfielders) in each league will be revealed on MLB Network at 5 p.m. CT, and they will advance to the second phase of voting to determine who makes the All-Star teams and starts for each League.
The All-Star ballot is available exclusively online and via mobile devices at MLB.com/Vote, at all 30 Club web sites, via the MLB App and via the MLB Ballpark App.
Altuve, who leads all Astros in votes with 620,724, is an eight-time All-Star, earning five fan elections (2015-18; 2022) in his esteemed career. He’s off to another stellar season, hitting .299 with 14 doubles, 11 homers, 29 RBI, 10 stolen bases and an .811 OPS in 71 games. Altuve leads all AL second baseman in hits, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging and OPS, while ranking tied for first in doubles and homers.
Alvarez is looking for his first starting assignment after making the AL team as a reserve in 2022 and 2023. The Astros designated hitter and left fielder is hitting .290 (79x272) with 16 doubles, 14 homers, 37 RBI and an .873 OPS in 71 games this season. Alvarez leads AL qualified designated hitters in batting average, OBP, SLG, and OPS, and ranks second in runs, hits and home runs.
Tucker, like Alvarez, is a two-time All-Star (2022-23), looking for his first fan election. Tucker has been in the AL MVP conversation this season, hitting .266 (57x214) with 11 doubles, 19 homers, 40 RBI, 10 stolen bases and a .979 OPS in 60 games. Among AL outfielders, Tucker ranks second in home runs, second in slugging and third in OPS.
Five other Astros also appeared among the top vote-getters in MLB’s Phase 1 update: catcher Yainer Diaz (6th), shortstop Jeremy Peña (6th), third baseman Alex Bregman (7th), first baseman Jon Singleton (7th) and outfielder Mauricio Dubón (17th).
The Astros are looking to continue their run of having at least three All-Stars in every All-Star game since the 2017 season. The Astros' 30 All-Star selections since 2017 are the most of any AL club in that span.
