    White Sox designate catcher Martin Maldonado for assignment amid a series of roster moves

    (670 The Score) The White Sox have designated catcher Martin Maldonado for assignment amid a series of roster moves Wednesday, The Athletic reported.

    Maldonado, 37, was hitting .119 with four homers, 11 RBIs and a .403 OPS in 48 games. His OPS+ was 14, a metric in which the league average is 100.

    In other roster moves, the White Sox signed infielder Nick Senzel, optioned infielder Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A Charlotte and designated infielder Danny Mendick for assignment.

    Senzel, 29, was recently designated for assignment by the Nationals and then released. He hit .209 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 64 games for Washington this season. He’s a career .235 hitter in his six-year MLB career. He has extensive experience playing center field as well as third base with limited time at second base as well.

    Sosa, 24, is slashing .237/.274/.350 with four homers and 15 RBIs in 52 games across two stints for the White Sox this season.

    Mendick, 30, hit .197 with three homers and eight RBIs in 47 games for the White Sox this season.
