One person is dead after a driver made an illegal turn on Kelly Drive and caused a three-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon in Philadelphia , according to police.

    It happened around 3:22 p.m.

According to police, the driver of a black Nissan Altima was traveling southbound on Kelly Drive when he made an illegal left turn onto Reservoir Drive.

The Altima was hit by a white Nissan Rogue. The Altima then spun around and hit a black BMW.

PICTURED: Chopper 6 was over a crash on Kelly Drive that left one person dead on August 15, 2024.

A passenger in the Altima was killed. He has been identified as 41-year-old Steven Tyree Moultrie.

The 44-year-old driver of the Altima, who sources say was working for a rideshare service at the time of the crash, suffered minor injuries.

Police said Friday that no other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Kelly Drive was closed between Hunting Park Avenue and Fountain Green Drive for hours.

We spoke to several folks who were jogging or biking in the area of the crash. Every single one of them said it's not uncommon for them to see drivers make risky moves along this stretch of road.

"I feel like when there's traffic on this road, it's really not that bad. But it's more when there are not many cars on the road, that's when people start to get a little more heavy on the gas," said Dane Mandato, of East Falls.

Kevin McLaughlin, who's out there often, says the city should consider additional safety measures like more signage to make sure drivers are always aware and alert.

"A little more barriers to force people to stay in their lanes. Some measures like that would probably be good," he said.
