Suspect arrested for shooting 7-month-old boy in Philadelphia's Holmesburg neighborhood
The suspect wanted for shooting a 7-month-old baby boy on Thursday night is now behind bars.On Friday night, police confirmed a woman was arrested in connection with the case. She'll be identified once she's formally charged.The gunfire rang out around 5:51 p.m. Thursday on the 4000 block of Meridian Street in the city's Holmesburg section.Video obtained by Action News shows the gunman walking up and opening fire on a baby and his parents outside of a home.The infant was shot in the leg by one of the bullets.When police arrived, they said the baby's parents weren't there. It was a good Samaritan neighbor who took the baby to the hospital."We're very lucky that 7-month-old boy is in stable condition," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.7-month-old boy shot by stray gunfire in Philadelphia's Holmesburg neighborhoodPolice say the parents, who were not hurt in the shooting, don't live in the area and they're not sure why they were in Holmesburg.Neighbors are glad the baby survived."I work with children. Thousands of PECO customers were still without power Thursday after powerful storms earlier this week.The storm brought damaging winds, gusting higher than 55 mph, and heavy rain."Couldn't find any relief except for just sitting in the shade and tough it out," said Andrew Benmbark, of East Fallowfield Township. "Just crossing our fingers something happens soon. Just dragging, another day, no power. Officers swarm Borgata Hotel Casino in Atlantic City due to apparent threat
Portions of the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City were briefly evacuated Thursday evening due to an apparent threat.Police say an unidentified man claimed he was inside the casino with firearms and explosives.Officers swarmed the casino and evacuated a portion of the property.Large police presence seen outside Borgata in Atlantic CityChopper 6 was overhead just before 5:30 p.m. where more than a dozen police cruisers were stationed outside.Drivers were prevented from entering the casino as police investigated.Police say no suspicious individuals or devices were located. The validity of this threat is still under investigation.Patrons have since been allowed back into the building and officers have cleared the scene.Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Atlantic City police.

Universal Charter Schools program aims to grow their own teachers amid staffing shortage
As school districts across the country continue to face teacher shortages, Universal Charter schools in Philadelphia has gotten creative with the launch of their Aspiring Teachers initiative.The goal is to fill classrooms with homegrown talent.Talent like Marissa Rivers, who was once a substitute teacher but is now permanently head of the class.This Fall, Rivers will be returning to Alcorn Universal Charter school as a full time teacher.She is the charter schools' first para professional to complete their Aspiring Teachers program, which is aimed at taking those in a secondary classroom roles who are already in the school system and footing the bill to get them certified.The program is in partnership with LaSalle University and is made possible through funding from Philadelphia works and other donors.Action News reporter Christie Ileto has the full story in the player above.
Photos released of suspect sought for convenience store killing in Chester, Pa.
Police have released photos of the man being sought for a fatal shooting inside a convenience store in Chester, Pa.It happened in the Lucky 7 store on the 1100 block of Morton Avenue just before 11:30 a.m. on July 2.Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Dontae Dickerson.He was found on the floor of the store, with a gunshot wound to the back of the head.The suspect has several tattoos on his arm, specifically an A K-style rifle on his left forearm.Anyone with information is urged to call Chester police.

Driver seriously injured after tree falls on SUV along I-476 in Delaware County
A driver was seriously injured on Thursday morning when a tree fell onto an SUV along I-476 in Delaware County.It happened around 11:05 a.m. in the northbound lanes, about a mile from the exit to West Chester Pike.Pennsylvania State Police say the driver was taken to the hospital by medics. That person's condition has not been released.Video from Chopper 6 showed the heavily damaged Toyota Rav 4 stopped on the highway. Pedestrian killed in Port Richmond in crash involving driver wanted out of Bucks County
A driver wanted in Bucks County was captured after a tragic accident in Philadelphia's Port Richmond section.The victim was standing behind a parked van on the corner of Frankford and Allegheny avenues around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when he was struck.The crash happened just two blocks from his home.Police say surveillance video shows the car the wanted man was driving was traveling east on Allegheny Avenue when the vehicle jumped the curb, slammed into a concrete barrier, then a metal barrier before hitting a 38-year-old man.The victim was launched roughly 30 feet into the intersection, police say.The pedestrian died at the scene.ALSO SEE: 30-year-old woman on bike killed after being struck by speeding driver in Center City PhiladelphiaThe driver is a 41-year-old man, according to police.
