Philadelphia leaders discuss election safety after assassination attempt against Donald Trump
The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has brought safety to top-of-mind when it comes to the upcoming November election.On Monday, leaders in Philadelphia spoke out against the attack while promising to protect the election process."We're in the backdrop of Octavius Catto," said Omar Sabir who serves as chairman of the Philadelphia City Commissioner, a bipartisan board of election officials.Catto was killed in 1871 while trying to help African Americans in Philadelphia to vote."He was a man who was assassinated on Election Day," said Sabir.He pointed to Catto's story as proof that political violence is unfortunately not new."There were...

Teenage girl dead after shooting inside West Philadelphia apartment
A teenage girl is dead after being shot inside an apartment on Monday morning in West Philadelphia.The shooting happened around 9 a.m. in the 5900 block of Chancellor Street.Investigators say a 17-year-old girl had been shot in the head and died at the scene.Police are still working to track down the shooter.There has been no word on a motive for the killing.RELATED: Check the 6abc Neighborhood Safety Tracker

Scammers try to trick drivers into sharing financial information to settle outstanding tolls
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is warning, again, about a scam targeting drivers.PTC says a smishing scam is being sent to random individuals, aiming to trick them into sharing their personal financial information to settle outstanding toll amounts.The video featured is from an earlier report.In April, PTC also warned of a similar E-ZPass phishing scam.The texts purport to be from "Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Services," and urges people to settle their overdue balances or face additional charges."I'm sure if you look at it without thinking, you could potentially look at that like, 'Oh my God, I have to go pay this...

Natanya Sortland's life changed when she had a stroke and then a traumatic brain injury. It's hard for her to remember what life was like before the age of 40.The Mind Your Brain Foundation helped her find a way to recover through one of their various conferences held throughout the year. And now, Sortland has become an advocate so others can follow in her footsteps.Sortland recently revisited Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital with Action News. A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition after police say she fell out of a second-story window in Philadelphia's Kensington section.Police responded to the 500 block of East Indiana Avenue around 9:10 p.m. on Sunday.The toddler was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where she is said to be in critical condition.No other information has been released about the incident.Police said the investigation is active and ongoing with the Special Victims Unit.
Columbus Blvd. lane closures to begin near Penn's Landing in Philadelphia due to I-95 CAP Project

A man was taken into custody on Friday for allegedly harassing and stealing from a Pro-Palestinian protester in Montgomery County earlier this month.The incident happened on July 3 just before noon in Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania.Officers say a 56-year-old woman was protesting on the sidewalk of Route 202 and Henderson Road.That's when the suspect, identified by police as Ilya Zaslavskiy, allegedly stopped his car, got out, and confronted the protester while stealing her signs.Zaslavskiy fled the scene, authorities say.Police obtained an arrest warrant for Zaslavskiy on July 5, charging him with theft by unlawful taking, harassment, ethnic intimidation, and more.Investigators...

A man has died after being shot in the head in North Philadelphia.Officers found the man shot on the 3500 block of North Warnock Street just after 11 p.m. Saturday.He was rushed to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.Officials say a second victim showed up to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.He is listed in stable condition.No weapon was recovered and no arrest has been made.The Shooting Investigation Group is leading the investigation.
