The AHOY Children's Museum is breaking ground

A new children’s museum is

coming in to dock in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood.

First announced in 2022 , this expansion to the Portland Museum is called AHOY — aka " Adventure House of You .” The first phase, expected to be complete in 2026, will include a renovation of the Victorian house that will serve as the museum’s location, plus a glass atrium connecting it to the Portland Museum.

This Saturday, Oct. 5 marks the groundbreaking celebration for AHOY, and it’s part of the 11th annual Portland Art + Heritage Fair . Here’s a sample of what you can expect:

• Local food and drink vendors, including Tommy’s Pizza, Haitian Exotica, and Shippingport Brewing
• A live performance by The Louisville Leopards Percussionists
• DJing and finger puppets by Squallis Puppeteers
• Art vendors + installations

The Art + Heritage Fair is free and runs 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Portland Museum.
