MTA Begins Crackdown On Bus Fare Beaters

Teams have been dispatched across New York City to address the problem of bus riders not paying the fare.

Recent MTA stats show that nearly half of all bus riders skip the fare, costing the agency millions of dollars. It comes at a time when the MTA continues to push for congestion pricing to generate revenue it says it needs for infrastructure repairs and upgrades.

Fare inspectors have the authority to remove people from the bus and issue fines of up to $100.
