Animal Foundation in critical space crisis, over 500 dogs on campus

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Animal Foundation announced Tuesday that it is in a critical space crisis and is asking for the community’s help in finding over 500 dogs a home.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Animal Foundation had 522 dogs on campus with more arriving including 12 dogs officers were bringing with no kennels available.

In a post on the foundation’s website it said, “Las Vegas, we really need your help. This is a critical space crisis.”

Those interested in helping can go to the Animal Foundation on Wednesday starting at 11 a.m. to adopt or foster a dog with no appointment needed. The foundation is also waiving all adoption fees.

The Animal Foundation said fostering a dog for two to four weeks helps them decompress away from the shelter. Fostering is free and the foundation will provide everything that is needed.

Not able to foster or adopt? Here are some other ways you can help:

• If you find a healthy and friendly dog, try to find their owner before bringing them to the shelter. They likely have a home nearby and a family waiting for them to return. In the last two weeks, the foundation has taken in 1,288 animals – 66% of those were strays

• Donate gently used crates, collars, leashes, and linens
• Reclaim your lost pet at the shelter. The foundation can assist you with reclaiming fees
