LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) —  Wednesday morning, the Las Vegas City Council voted to approve the development of the “New Vegas Immersive District.”

The nearly 36-acre district near AREA15 is planned to feature housing and businesses on top of new immersive experiences.

The owners of AREA15 are hoping to turn its surrounding areas into the next entertainment district. Councilman Brian Knudsen said progress on new developments is underway.

“The rate of development has been really impressive, and the quality of work has been really impressive to drive by and see,” Knudsen said.

Council members praised the district’s lead investors, the Fisher Brothers, for their work with AREA15. One of them was Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, who oversees the ward containing the suitably named New Vegas Immersive District.

“I really see it as a spark that’s going to bring that area of Ward 3 to life, and further revitalize,” Diaz said.

Part of the revitalization is already standing. The construction of immersive experiences like Universal Horror Unleashed can already be seen. The planned future of the district holds hundreds of thousands of square feet for places to work, live shop, and eat, as well as a hotel for visitors.

The new businesses are planned to bring jobs with them, including some that are unique to the immersive entertainment industry.

“Everything that has to be brought to life in that space will also require a workforce. I’m really excited about also what does this mean for artists, creatives, actors, makeup persons, people who do costumes,” Diaz said.

Developers project the district to be settled in by 2037. By that point, they say the district should bring in nearly a billion dollars a year.
