LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – People living in the southeast valley are calling for change after police said a man was stabbed and then hit by a car early Wednesday morning.

Several people who spoke with 8 News Now near Nellis Boulevard and Harmon Avenue said they were still rattled by what happened.

“It’s scary,” Robert Montgomery said. “It’s scary.”

Montgomery, who said he was on his way to work as a crossing guard near the intersection, described what he saw.

“They had Nellis all closed off,” he said. “And the body was still laying there about 8:00 this morning.”

Another woman who lived near where the incident unfolded also walked 8 News Now through her point of view, though she did not want to share her identity.

“He was stabbed right there,” she said, pointing to the crime scene on Lana Drive, near Nellis Boulevard.

In a news conference, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said this all started with an argument around 3:00 a.m. in front of a home.

A man involved in that argument was later stabbed, but officers said as he tried to cross Nellis Boulevard, he was hit by a car.

They told 8 News Now the driver pulled over, ripped off the vehicle’s damaged bumper, and left the scene.

Now, detectives are trying to piece together more about the victim and the people connected to his death.

“I think once we start learning the relationship of who he is,” LVMPD Lt. Jason Johansson said of the victim. “We’ll be able to identify the other parties involved.”

However, those living nearby said this isn’t the first time problems have come up at the same address.

“A lot of times they close the street because of the neighbor,” a woman living nearby said. “A lot of people come and go.”

She said she hopes to see some changes made to prevent situations like this from happening in the future.

“I wish they could close that house and not let people come in,” she concluded. “I don’t feel safe.”

Police said they are still searching for the person connected to the stabbing and the driver involved in the hit-and-run.

Officers described the car as an orange Dodge Challenger with a missing front bumper.

Anyone with any information should contact LVMPD at 702-828-3111 or Crime Stoppers of NV at 702-385-5555.
