Las Vegas men arrested, accused of human smuggling in Arizona

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Two men from Las Vegas are acccused of human smuggling after being arrested in Arizona, according to the Conchise County Sheriff’s Office.

The arrests took place on Wednesday shortly before 2 p.m. by sheriff deputies in southern Arizona.

Casey Olaf Sandoval, 25, and Julio Gutierrez, 25, of Las Vegas, face felony charges of human smuggling, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sandoval had a previous charge/conviction for attempted murder in Nevada. Gutierrez had an outstanding felony warrant for robbery in Nevada as well, according to Cochise County Sherriff’s Office.

The arrests took place while deputies were attempting to make a traffic stop on a 2015 Chevy Silverado with Nevada license plates. The truck appeared to pull over to the side of the road near Highway 92 and South Hereford Road in Cochise County before deputies saw a man dressed in camouflage run to the truck and get inside, according to Cochise County.

As the deputies initiated the stop, the truck’s driver initially failed to yield before pulling over and a man dressed in camouflage ran from the truck. The two men were then taken to the Cochise County Jail.

U.S. Border Patrol responded to the area and located the man who ran from the scene. The investigation is being continued by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
