LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man visiting from Germany told officers he was drunk after he allegedly hit a man on a scooter while driving a rental car near the Las Vegas Strip, according to an arrest report.

On Sept. 1 around 7:30 a.m., Metro police responded to a report of a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Twain Avenue and Paradise Road. According to the 911 call, a man on a scooter was hit by a convertible black Mustang, causing him to be thrown into the intersection, police said.

When officers arrived they found the man, who appeared to be going in and out of consciousness, lying in the road. He had blood coming from his head and multiple broken bones. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to witnesses and footage from a nearby Tesla, the convertible Mustang with California plates was driving eastbound on Sands Avenue at a high rate of speed when it drove up onto the median, causing all tires to flatten, and hit the man on the scooter from behind before leaving the area, the report said.

Around 7:34 a.m., while officers were attempting to locate the suspects, officers found the black Mustang with multiple flat tires parked in the center of a cul-de-sac in the 480 block Kolson Circle near Paradise Road and East Twain Avenue.

Police stopped two men who were walking toward the car and the driver was identified as Mehrabi. While officers were speaking with Mehrabi, he “could not control his momentum” and told officers that he was drunk. When officers asked if he would agree to a sobriety test, he said, “You don’t need tests, I am a little drunk,” the report said.

Inside the Mustang, police also found an open single shot of what appeared to be alcohol near the driver’s side door panel as well as a single shot of New Amsterdam Peach Dragon fruit flavor vodka, police said.

Mehrabi and the passenger of the Mustang told police that they were visiting from Germany and rented the Mustang in San Francisco and then drove down to Los Angeles and eventually to Las Vegas. They said when they arrived in Las Vegas, they met two men who convinced them to drive around the city. The two men were not found in the car when officers found Mehrabi and the passenger in the cul-de-sac, police said.

Mehrabi was arrested and brought to the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10.
