LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — The family of a man killed in July says they want justice, but that may not come as authorities are considering the killing as an act of self-defense.

The shooting happened on July 8 along Boulder Highway near Desert Inn Road.

“My brother gets shot, I think, three times that we know of. Once in the shoulder and twice in his main artery in his leg,” Sharonda Venable, Wilford’s sister, said.

In a statement sent to 8 News Now, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it will ask Clark County prosecutors to consider the shooting death of Wilford Venable as possible self-defense.

“I can’t believe this, I really can’t believe it. Oh my God, so he kills my brother and he gets away with it?” Sharonda said in tears.

Sharonda shared photos to 8 News Now of her 32-year-old brother holding his child. That child witnessed the murder of his father.

“My nephew has nightmares, you know? From watching his dad being murdered. That man took my nephew’s best friend away from him,” Sharonda said. “It’s not fair.”

According to police, before the shooting the current boyfriend and the ex-boyfriend were involved in a “heated argument” that turned into a physical fight at which point the current boyfriend is suspected of shooting the ex-boyfriend.

Wilford’s family said he was still with the woman at the time.

Despite the killing being considered as a possible case of self-defense, Metro tells 8 News Now it remains under investigation.

The shooter isn’t being identified by 8 News Now because he hasn’t been charged.

Wilford’s sister said her brother left behind three children.
