LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — North Las Vegas is paving the way for a new downtown with more than $200 million going towards their Downtown Redevelopment Project.

“I feel like there could be a lot more improvement in this area,” resident Belinda Levi said.

North Las Vegas is close to finishing its new 42,000-square-foot state-of-the-art medical office building located near Lake Mead Boulevard and Las Vegas Boulevard.

It’s all a part of the city’s transformative NLV Gateway Project.

Those who live nearby are pleased to see some “new” being built in an older part of town.

“Over here, they do need those resources. There’s a medical hospital down the street, but that’s the only one and it’s more for emergencies,” Randy Ware said.

“I think it’s going to be wonderful. At least we don’t have to go all the way down to Summerlin or UMC so this will help,” another North Las Vegas resident said.

The 29-acre, mixed-use commercial district will also include a walkable community space with convenient access to daily necessities. The NLV Gateway Project offers units for local entrepreneurs and start-ups, including restaurants and businesses too.

North Las Vegas is the fastest growing, largest minority-majority city in Nevada.

Residents like Levi, hope the new medical center will help those struggling with their mental health, too — a crisis we’ve seen valley-wide.

“I believe housing and mental health is the biggest problem here in Las Vegas,” Levi said.

The medical office building will officially open next month with North Las Vegas Gateway development expected to be complete by 2026.
