LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A special pinning ceremony was held for Vietnam War veterans in Summerlin Saturday morning.

During the event, veterans like Richard Moyer were recognized for their service.

“It’s nice to be recognized. It’s nice to understand that people do care,” Moyer said.

Moyer’s father also received the Purple Heart, and today’s event served as a way for him to remember his legacy.

“It’s a little emotional for me today, but I’ll get past that,” Moyer said. “I remember my dad, my dad, in the Second World War, got a purple heart too. And two days later he was captured, so I’m just thinking about him.”

U.S. Rep. Susie Lee (D-Nev.) honored combat-wounded veterans at the event, saying when they came home from Vietnam, they did not receive the recognition they deserved.

“Being able to have a pinning ceremony at this point in time to recognize their sacrifice and the service and that of their families as well it’s one of the greatest honors I have as a Congresswoman,” Lee said.

20 veterans received pins at the event.

Yes, they were. My husband, Ronald Gene Rodrigues, was one one of those heroes. Unfortunately, he has passed. Thank you for your service.
