LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Rangers at Grand Canyon National Park recovered the body of a 71-year-old man believed to be a boater who went missing on Monday night.

The man was reported missing in the area of Lower Nankoweap Camp at river mile 53.5 on the Colorado River. Rangers in a helicopter located a body 10 miles downstream from there on Tuesday, according to the National Park Service (NPS).

“Initial information suggests the body is that of a 71-year-old male who was reported missing,” according to an NPS news release. The man’s name was not released.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the incident. No additional information was provided

In a separate incident on Saturday, rangers responded to a call at about 5:30 a.m. reporting a man’s death at Poncho’s Kitchen, a section of the Colorado River near river mile 137.

Patrick Horton, 59, of Salida, Colorado, was on the 10th day of a non-commercial river trip. He was found dead by members of his party.

That death is also being investigated by NPS and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office. No additional information was provided.
