Traveler arrested after making Las Vegas airport terror threat, ‘Trump 2024’ remark: police

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An angry traveler allegedly made comments about blowing up Harry Reid International Airport and the 2024 candidacy of former President Donald Trump, sparking a counterterrorism response and a felony charge, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

On Monday, Sept. 9, officers responded to an Alaska Airlines counter for a report of a customer who allegedly made statements about blowing up the airport, documents said. Officers identified the customer as Jared Peeler, of South Carolina.

According to police, Peeler became upset when he asked an airline agent about a direct flight to South Carolina and learned there was not one.

“Agents informed Peeler that they were calling police [and] Peeler then yelled, ‘If I were a terrorist I’d blow up this place [and] come back and shoot this [expletive] up Trump 2024,” documents said.

Because of the nature of the statement, detectives from the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center responded.

In an interview with police, Peeler denied making the threatening statements and said, “I said good thing I’m not a terrorist and I’m not trying to blow up the airport,” documents said.

Peeler faces charges of violating airport conduct, a misdemeanor; and making threats or conveying false information concerning acts of terrorism, a felony, records said.

During Peeler’s probable cause hearing on Sept. 10, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Rebecca Saxe ordered him to stay away from the airport unless he is a ticketed passenger. Saxe released Peeler, requiring him to regularly check in with the court with GPS monitoring.
