Bicyclist killed after crash involving garbage truck Henderson

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A 23-year-old bicyclist has died after he was injured in a crash involving a garbage dumpster truck at an intersection in Henderson.

The crash happened on Thursday shortly before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Warm Springs and Parkson Roads near Gibson Road, according to Henderson Police.

Preliminary police investigation revealed a garbage dumpster truck was traveling eastbound on Warm Springs Road. The bicyclist was operating an electric hybrid red and black bicycle and was also traveling eastbound on Warm Springs Road in the bicycle lane.

Due to construction in the area, the bicycle lane was closed with barricades as well as signs posted.

The bicyclist continued eastbound and attempted to squeeze between a barricade
barrel and the dumpster truck.

The front tire of the bicycle rolled onto the barricade base, causing the bicyclist to fall over and into the path of the dumpster truck. The rear tires of the dumpster truck ran over the bicyclist, police stated.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital in serious condition where he was later pronounced dead.

Officers remained at the scene of the crash to investigate. Nearby roads reopened by 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The collision is being investigated as the fifteenth accident-related fatality for 2024.
