LAS VEGAS (KLAS)– Finding suitable childcare is a challenge for many parents in the Las Vegas valley, with some noting a shortage of affordable options.

A mom in Las Vegas uses a mom-led company that puts stay-at-home moms to work and offers another childcare solution.

Olivia Bisignano, a 34-year-old resident of Skye Canyon, and her husband both work full-time. While her parents occasionally babysit their three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son, Olivia still needed to find additional childcare.

She started researching The June Care Company upon a friend’s recommendation. June Care connects parents with moms already at home caring for their children.

Gretchen Salyer is the Founder and CEO, of June Care and said this service was born out of the pandemic.

“Childcare disappeared. No one was comfortable dropping off their kid, a lot of daycares shut down,” Salyer said.

To manage childcare for her own three children, she began organizing swaps and creating schedules with stay-at-home moms who provided care for their neighbors’ kids. This effort and strategy evolved and developed into something larger.

“I thought, here is this totally underutilized childcare happening by stay-at-home moms. If we can leverage technology to the families who need it, all the while creating an income opportunity for moms caring for their own kids,” Salyer added.

It started in California and expanded nationwide, with Nevada becoming their fastest-growing market, particularly in the Las Vegas area.

“There are three children for every one seat of childcare available,” Salyer said.

Bisignano explains how June Care allows them to connect with other moms and get to know them better.

“You can view their profile, they tell a little bit about themselves, how many kids they have, what adults will be in the house, if there are pets in the house, which I thought was great,” Bisignano added.

June Care is free to sign up and connect with providers but charges a ten percent fee on any bookings made through the platform. The service conducts background checks on all providers, including checking two references and conducting a live interview.
