On Saturday around 2:30 p.m., North Las Vegas police responded to the 4100 block of Solar System Street after a report of a man battering a woman in front of a residence. The man also was attempting to drag the woman into a residence but was unsuccessful, police said.

Before police arrived, the man, identified as Thomas, pulled out a gun and began to point it at the woman and a witness who tried to help her. Police said Thomas also took property from at least one of the witnesses while pointing the gun at them.

When officers arrived, Thomas pointed the gun at his head, got into the victim’s vehicle, and fled the area. A short pursuit began, however, due to Thomas’ “reckless and dangerous driving speed,” traffic, and Thomas being positively identified, the pursuit was terminated, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Around 5:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol notified North Las Vegas police that its patrolmen located Thomas in California, several miles from the Nevada-California border. After another police chase and Thomas barricading himself in the victim’s stolen vehicle, he was taken into custody, according to police.

North Las Vegas police will take custody of Thomas once he is booked and processed by CHP.

Police said Thomas is facing further charges in California.

Detectives are urging anyone who may have information about this crime to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department by phone at 702-633-9111. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-5555, or at https://crimestoppersofnv.com/ .
