LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — During Hispanic Heritage Month, a Las Vegas organization unveiled a tribute to an influential labor leader.

“Cesar Chavez was a person that was about helping people,” said Andres Contreras, Executive Vice President of Integrated Health, Social Services and Education at Chicanos Por La Causa. “Bringing people together […] to make things more equitable.”

Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) describes itself as one of the largest Latino nonprofits in the country and provides “services to people of all backgrounds while honoring our Mexican American roots,” according to the organization’s website.

Contreras said CPLC was started around the same time as the beginnings of Chavez’s movement. For more than 30 years, Chavez led the first successful farm workers union in history.

Las Vegas city leaders unveiled a new tribute to the labor leader, a Cesar Chavez sculpture. The Chavez family was represented during the event, thanking the community for the tribute. CPLC officials detailed the artwork’s path to Las Vegas from Durango, Mexico.

The Cesar Chavez sculpture will remain at the CPLC office in Las Vegas.

it nice to see a statue od Ceasar Chaves, people need to understand as yes he was very influential in the Farm Workers Union, but he was against illegal immigrants as he knew they not only took American jobs. but they also stagnated wages. I always find it interesting they always leave that part of History or Chaves out.
