    Nevada inmate walks away from conservation camp; search ongoing

    LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An inmate walked away from a conservation camp near Las Vegas on Saturday, prompting a search by authorities.

    On Sept. 14, the Nevada Department of Corrections reported that a minimum-security inmate walked away from the Jean Conservation Camp, located approximately 20 miles south of Las Vegas.

    NDOC identified the missing inmate as Joan Wenger, 69. She was discovered missing during the 3 a.m. count on Saturday morning. According to the NDOC website , this conservation camp is currently the only camp within Nevada that houses female offenders.

    The NDOC also stated that Wenger was first admitted into their facility on Dec. 1 and was serving a 120-month sentence for a vehicle homicide. She is described as 5’1″ tall, weighing 135 pounds, with green eyes and gray hair.

    NDOC is urging anyone with information about Wenger’s whereabouts to call 911 immediately.
