Judge sentences man who killed woman, left body in desert outside Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who killed a woman and left her body in the desert will serve at least two decades in prison, a Las Vegas judge ruled Thursday.

Albertt Monterio Jr., 24, killed Destiny Jackson, 24, in September 2021, police said. A hiker found Jackson’s body near Las Vegas Boulevard in Sloan.

In court Thursday, Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones sentenced Monterio to 26 years to life in prison. The sentence includes an added term for robbery, records said.

During their initial investigation, police assumed the person responsible for Jackson’s death had taken her cell phone and possibly her car. On Sept. 17, 2021, police found the car in Redondo Beach, California.

During an interview with police after his arrest, Monterio told them he had been living in Las Vegas and wanted to return to California where he is from.

On Sept. 10, 2021, Monterio located a personal ad for Jackson and met her in a desert lot near Amigo Street and Cactus Avenue, police said. Police said Monterio had planned to rob Jackson of her car.

Monterio will be eligible for parole in 23 years with credit for time served.
