LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Hail, heavy rain, and some lightning hit when some pop-up thunderstorms moved from the far southwest north along the western edge of the Las Vegas valley Friday morning. Forecasters said it’s a preview of what is expected later in the day.

Tom Warden shared this video with 8 News News now showing the heavy rainfall near Sky Vista Road and Alta Drive.

A low-pressure system is moving in the valley from Southern California and is expected to bring more thunderstorms later Friday. The morning rainfall dropped .28 inches of rain near Flamingo Road and Town Center Drive. The National Weather Service in Las Vegas posted this time-lapse video of the stormy weather on the valley’s western edge Friday morning.

According to 8 News Now weather anchor Sherry Swensk, storm cells brewing in California are expected to circle back into the valley in the early afternoon with thunderstorms possible by the early evening before rolling out of the valley.

Drivers traveling to Southern California along I-15 should expect rain and stormy conditions.
