LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A newly issued permit shows the implosion of Tropicana’s towers should cost more than $1.2 million.

To some Las Vegas visitors, what is left of the Tropicana it’s not the prettiest site to see.

“Vegas is special, isn’t it? It’s like the place to go to, upmarket, classy And then that’s just an eyesore, ” Anthony Sincie, a visitor from England, said.

To others, it’s a piece of history going away.

“Sad actually, because you’ve heard of the Tropicana for forever and I really wanted to see it. Just didn’t make it out here quick enough,” Stephanie Landry, a visitor from Atlanta, GA, said.

The time for implosion is inching closer and closer, with a recently issued Clark County Implosion Permit saying the tumbling of the 22-story towers will cost around $1.2 million.

On top of that, a dust control permit from March states it should cost around $100,000 to keep dust under control, with someone on-call for any fugitive dust.

All this to bring a Major League Baseball Stadium, which, like the building’s implosion, had mixed reviews.

“I read that it’s coming to the taxpayers, like a billion-dollar baseball team are coming, and the taxpayers are funding it. It doesn’t seem alright,” Sinsie said.

“I would rather see them put it towards making it better than taking it down. But it sounds like it could be a lot more expensive, to be honest, Landry said.

One of the other steps to make sure the property is implosion-ready was an asbestos abatement, which a Clark Count spokesperson told 8 News Now was completed.

The Tropicana’s towers are planned to go down on Oct. 9 at 2:30 a.m.
