LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas locals shared their frustrations over an extended Bank of America outage Wednesday that prevented thousands of customers from accessing their accounts for hours.

“It’s quite terrifying,” David Serra said of Wednesday’s outage.

Serra and his wife Jennifer Chain told 8 News Now their financial world hit a snag.

“We want answers,” Chain said. “Like what is going on?”

They were just two of nearly 20,000 Bank of America customers who reported an extended outage Wednesday, according to the website Downdetector.com

“I noticed that it said zero balance,” Serra recalled. “I got super scared, went to her, we talked about it, and then I checked it again and it had a series of dashes.”

Many reported experiencing just what Serra described, with some also seeing transactions declined and others unable to access their account through the bank app or an ATM.

“There’s no answers,” Chain said. “I called a branch location, same thing, just recording, nobody can take your call at this time.”

8 News Now reached out to Bank of America about Wednesday’s outage and received two different statements regarding the problem.

The most recent, which was issued at 8:00 p.m. PT, approximately eight hours after the issues were reported:

“Some mobile and online banking clients experienced an issue accessing their accounts and balance information earlier today. These technology issues have been fully resolved. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Bank of America did not release any information on what caused the outage.

Serra told 8 News Now he hopes the problems he saw before that resolution don’t end up affecting his business account.

“I’m worried about 350 people getting paid and receiving their checks tomorrow and Friday,” he explained. “And here we are showing a zero balance.”

The couple said they would like to see more communication from the company overall.

“An answer, or just like a relax it’s going to be okay,” Serra concluded. “Something would be nice.”

In January 2023, Bank of America customers also reported a widespread issue with money missing from Zelle transactions and deposits.

The bank put out an alert that deposits were delayed and then later announced the issue was resolved.
