LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Portions of the Las Vegas Strip will be closed overnight for the implosion of Tropicana Las Vegas on Wednesday.

After 67 years on the Las Vegas Strip, the Trop will cease to exist after Wednesday’s implosion. The implosion is set to start around 2:30 a.m. and the show will start with 555 drones dancing in the skies above the iconic hotel, 150 Pyrodrones shooting sparks, and fireworks before nearly 2,200 pounds of explosives bring both towers crumbling down.

Countdown: Hours ticking down to Tropicana Las Vegas implosion; how to watch it

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the I-15 northbound on-ramp to Tropicana and the I-15 southbound off-ramp to both eastbound and westbound Tropicana will be closed for the implosion.

Las Vegas Boulevard will be closed northbound and southbound from Mandalay Bay Road to Park Avenue. Tropicana Avenue will be closed in both directions from Dean Martin to Koval Lane.

Reno Drive will be closed in both directions from Luxor Drive to Duke Ellington Way. Giles Street will be closed from Las Vegas Boulevard to Duke Ellington Way.

The hard closures are set to begin at 12:30 a.m. and according to NDOT are expected to last until 6 a.m.

There will be no public viewing areas so getting the best viewing will be by watching it on KLAS-TV, channel 8, which is dedicating numerous camera crews for live coverage of the event from different angles. “Drop the Trop” will begin airing at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Oct.9. You can also watch that coverage via a live stream on 8NewsNow.com at that time or later in the day if you missed it.
