Woman stabbed to death near sidewalk while husband goes into store at Sahara, Maryland Parkway, police say

UPDATE: Police arrested Lawrence Townsend Jr., 45, several hours after the stabbing and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center. According to court records, he is facing a murder charge.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A woman is dead and police said they are looking for the suspect who stabbed her multiple times Monday evening.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police received a report shortly before 10 p.m. that a woman was stabbed in the landscape area along the sidewalk of Sahara Avenue near Maryland Parkway.

Lt. Jason Johansson said the officers found the woman, who was in her 50s, and began giving her life-saving treatment but when medical help arrived she was pronounced dead.

He said police learned the “unhoused” woman was in the landscape area with her husband and another man.

“The boyfriend left to go to the store to get her some things from the store around the corner and when he came back he found his wife had been stabbed,” Johannsson said. “On scene, we did locate a knife and were able to confirm through video surveillance the husband’s account that he left and she was here.”

According to the police report, detectives identified the man who stabbed the woman as Lawrence Townsend Jr., 45. Townsend was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
