LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A family member found legendary baseball player Pete Rose unresponsive in his Las Vegas apartment days after a woman took Rose to the hospital, claiming he was “acting different,” according to documents the 8 News Now Investigators obtained.

Rose died in his Las Vegas apartment at age 83 on Sept. 30. The Clark County coroner’s office said Rose died from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with diabetes mellitus noted as a contributing factor.

The day of Rose’s death, a family member became concerned after he had not heard from Rose for several days, documents said. The family member went to Rose’s apartment, finding him unresponsive.

Another person spoke with Rose on Sept. 29, the day before his death, documents said. The next day, Sept. 30, the person texted Rose, but he did not respond. The person then called the family member and requested that security perform a welfare check.

The person told police she took Rose to the hospital on Sept. 25 “because she thought something was wrong with him due to Pete acting different,” documents said.

“[She] could only describe it as different,” documents said. “[She] requested his blood, urine, and anything the hospital could check be tested. When the test results came back, they appeared fine and did not show anything wrong with Pete.”

Inside Rose’s apartment, police said they located several prescriptions and bottles of over-the-counter pain relievers as well as a half-empty bottle of NyQuil. It appeared Rose had vomited at some point as there was liquid in a trashcan, documents said.

Rose’s medical information was redacted in police documents.

Rose started his legendary career in 1963 with the Cincinnati Reds. He would later play for the Philadelphia Phillies and the Montreal Expos. Major League Baseball banned Rose in 1989 after betting on games.
