LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced Tuesday that Nevada’s ghost gun law will continue to be in effect.

“Reasonable, common sense gun laws make Nevada a safer place to live and visit, and
our state’s ghost-gun law furthers this goal,” he said.

A ghost gun is a fully functional homemade firearm without a serial number. In August 2022, the Biden-Harris administration implemented a rule to reduce the spread of ghost guns by requiring that certain firearm parts be serialized.

The District Court supported the state’s findings, confirming that the ghost gun law is constitutional and aligns with America’s gun regulations aimed at safety.

“With rampant gun violence and, particularly, mass shootings plaguing our nation, my office will continue to advocate for and defend impactful gun legislation that leads to safer schools,
neighborhoods and public gatherings,” Ford said.

Nevada will return to the Ninth Circuit Court to provide updates on the ongoing appeal.

Meanwhile, it is still illegal in Nevada to possess, sell, transfer, purchase, transport, or receive a firearm that does not have a serial number issued by a firearms importer or manufacturer, as required by federal law.
