LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — Two local women are helping the community master their mental health in every area of their lives – whether work, home, school, or other social setting – by hosting a community mental health conference.

Thursday, Oct. 10 is World Mental Health Day, a day to set aside for global mental health education, awareness, and advocacy. This year’s theme is “Mental Health at Work” which emphasizes the important connection between mental wellness and work.

The second annual Unstoppable Conference, hosted by Nat Trodahl and Tressa Fernandez, aims to help people start thriving. The conference offers essential skills and resources for people to unlock resilience in their lives and bounce back from setbacks stronger and healthier.

Whether facing setbacks in your career, personal life, or simply striving for your next level of success, speaker and event organizer Trodahl said resilience is the key to moving forward and it all starts with what you think and believe.

“There are three myths of resiliency,” Trodahl said. “The first is that you have to grin down and bear it. Two is that you have to avoid any pain or discomfort that you’re feeling at the moment that you’re overcoming the challenge. And three is that you have to go at it alone.”

Trodahl said resiliency isn’t about avoiding challenges, but confronting them head-on when they arise.

“Resiliency is about bouncing back when you get knocked down,” said Trodahl. “But you don’t have to go at it alone. When you do get back up with a community of people surrounding you, you learn that you are undefeated, and you build your confidence in that way.”

Speaker Fernandez said once you master resiliency, you can move onto the next step of becoming unstoppable – mastering confidence.

“Confidence empowers you to embrace challenge and adapt to change,” Fernandez said. “It helps foster relationships and helps you to be able to be strong and confident when you present yourself to people.”

The Unstoppable Conference takes place Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Beautiful Event Center near Durango and Charleston. For more information and to register, visit the Unstoppable Conference webpage .
