Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival returns celebrating 30 years at Sunset Park

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — For three decades, more than 55,000 people have attended the three-day outdoor Renaissance festival at Sunset Park for a weekend full of medieval fun.

The festival transforms the park into a Renaissance-era wonderland with villages, different guilds, historical reenactments, and an array of authentic food and beverages from that period.

This year, more than 100 artisans from throughout the country and Canada will participate including gold and silver smiths, stained glass designers, wood and costume makers, and everything in between.

Although the Viking Era was centuries before the Renaissance, it’s one of the events that’s been celebrated at the weekend fair for the past 10 years. Roger Buehrer with Vegas Vikings said it’s a way to share the culture of Norway and the Vikings.

“We have the infamous lutefisk toss. Lutefisk was a throwaway fish but in the early days, it was a poor man’s fish. It was cod that they soaked in lye so they could eat it year-round. They would soak it in lye to preserve it and then when they wanted to use it they had to soak the lye out for a period of time and then cook it over an open fire,” Buehrer said.

The fun starts Friday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. and runs through Sunday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. at Sunset Park at 2601 E. Sunset Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89120.

This year, no cash will be accepted at the box office. Admission is $17 per day if you purchase online and $25 at the door. All children 5 and under are free. Seniors 60 and older are $10 and children 6 to 12 are $20 per day.

There will be limited parking on site and overflow parking at Del Sol High School located at 3100 E. Patrick Lane and at Cannon Junior High located at 5850 Euclid Street for all three days of the festival. Free shuttle service is available from both sites every 15 minutes.
