LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Yogi, a 9-year-old Belgian Malinois K9 on the Las Vegas Metropolitan police force, died Thursday after a sudden neurological issue was discovered this week.

Metro posted the sad news and photos of Yogi on its X social account and recounted how Yogi started with Metro in 2017 and worked with Officer Mike Marano as a patrol dog beginning in 2018.

Police said Yogi was a cancer survivor and tough dog and was scheduled to retire when the sudden onset of the illness made it impossible for him to walk.

“Yogi loved his work as a police dog. We will remember him for his service to the Las Vegas Community, his elementary school demonstrations, and the many suspects he found and apprehended. Yogi made Las Vegas a safer community and he will never be forgotten,” the social post said.
