LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 16-year-old is one of two teenagers Las Vegas Metro police arrested following a fatal shooting during a marijuana purchase, documents said.

On Oct. 4, around 4 p.m. the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was called to the area of Tree Line Drive and South Grass Meadow Drive near Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.

Detectives learned a man identified as Dominque Rattler traveled with a woman to deal marijuana to the “same kids he served last week,” according to an arrest report.

The woman with Rattler told police that he exited his car to meet two individuals dressed in ski masks and black clothing. Moments later, gunshots rang out, and Rattler rushed back to his car but collapsed while trying to open the driver’s door, according to the arrest report.

The woman got out of the car but was also met with gunfire from the masked individuals, police said. She was then taken to a nearby hospital.

The woman told police she and Rattler were raising eight children together, and although Rattler had a job, she explained that it did not provide enough income, prompting him to deal marijuana, according to the arrest report.

Rattler was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

Police identified the suspects earlier this month as 19-year-old Serge Kamga and a 16-year-old. The 16-year-old was identified through court records as Ty Mijay Standmore.

In police interviews, Kamga stated that the pair intended to purchase an ounce of marijuana from Rattler, who showed a firearm during the meeting. Fearing for their safety, Kamga said he and Standmore ran to an apartment, adding that he did not fire a weapon and suggested that Standmore felt compelled to shoot at Rattler in self-defense.

Through the investigation, a 45-caliber firearm, a clear bag with a leafy substance and a clear plastic bottle with a white cap containing purple liquid were found in the car that Rattler was in, according to police. Additionally, a firearm was found inside a freezer in the apartment Standmore and Kamga ran to, police said.

Police said Kamga denied that the incident was an attempted robbery. Police tried to question Standmore, but he requested legal representation before answering any questions.

According to the court records, both teenagers face charges of conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with a deadly weapon and open murder. Both teenagers remained in custody without bail.
