LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 34-year-old man was struck and critically injured in a crash Friday morning as he attempted to cross Flamingo Road near Cameron Street.

Las Vegas Metropolitan police said the driver identified as Jonas Villaverde, 60, showed signs of impairment and was arrested and booked for DUI-related charges.

The crash was reported around 11:40 p.m. and resulted in the closure of Flamingo until 6 a.m. Friday.

Police said the man, who was crossing near a marked crosswalk, was transported to University Medical Center’s Trauma Unit with life-threatening injuries.

Flamingo Road reopened just before 6 a.m.

Drinking is out of hand but there are also too many pedestrians that are jaywalking across the street and walking in dark clothing so it's really hard to see them at nights. I was driving to work this morning going west on Sahara and a homeless looking guy walked right in front on incoming traffic. I could hardly see him. They need to go to a crosswalk to cross the street and not test fate. It could happen to any driver not only the drunk drivers.

It is disgusting that this happens so often and most people don't drink alone! They don't think right when they are drunk! Stop them from driving! Anyone serving a person to that point needs fired!
