CADILLAC — A local nonprofit helped foster kids in need gear up for a new school year.

Foster Closet of Michigan Wexford-Missaukee held a giveaway this weekend. They gave out new and gently used clothing, toiletries, and other school related items.

The nonprofit’s president, Kaitlyn Snyder, said the group is made up of mostly foster moms who intimately understand the challenges foster kids deal with.

“We supply all these things for free for them so that they can start their school year on the right foot and have what they need to succeed. A lot of times when kids come into situations, out of a hard situation, they say they don’t have what they need for, they have the clothes on their back. So it’s helpful for them to get the things that they need,” said Snyder.

About 120 foster kids from the area were expected to take part in the event.
