Luzerne 15-year-old dies after drowning in Oscoda Co. lake

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office said a 15-year-old from Luzerne drowned while swimming in Smith Lake in Comins Township.

Deputies got several 911 calls saying the teen had gone under and didn’t come back up. After more than an hour of searching, deputies – along with MSP, a Federal Forest officer and a Michigan Conservation officer – finally found him.

Law enforcement and a Macomb County man who was on the scene helped get the teen out of the water. He was taken to Grayling Munson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is still open. The teen’s name will not be released because he is a minor.
