    The Flats at Carriage Commons development breaks ground in Traverse City

    Development to include 48 multi-family units

    TRAVERSE CITY — Smith & Henzy Affordable Group, the Traverse City Housing Commission and Wolverine Building Group broke ground on phase one of The Flats at Carriage Commons on Aug. 15.

    The groundbreaking took place at 3 p.m. Aug. 15 and the first phase of the development will total 40,156 sq. ft. and include 48 multi-family units in five three-story buildings spread over three phases.

    Phase one for The Flats at Carriage Commons is slated for completion by July 2025.

    The Flats at Carriage Commons will offer amenities including a childcare center and a café.

    The Traverse City Housing Commission is the co-developer behind The Flats at Carriage Commons. TCHC provides several options for affordable housing and resources in and around Traverse City.

    Smith & Henzy Affordable Group is the co-developer behind The Flats at Carriage Commons. It is a real estate development firm devoted to creating affordable housing opportunities across the country.

    Smith & Henzy has created or preserved over 8,000 affordable apartments nationwide with a total development cost surpassing $2.5 billion.

    Founded in 1939, Wolverine Building Group has 180+ employees and specializes in industrial, multi-unit residential, industrial, healthcare, office, restaurant and recreational construction.
