Dozens of animals impacted by Hurricane Helene have traveled to Michigan from Tennessee to find their new fur-ever home.

The Little Traverse Bay Humane Society said four staff members from the shelter were helping with search and rescue efforts in North Carolina. And in Tennessee, others were making arrangements to bring some animals from shelters there back to Northern Michigan.

The director of development for the shelter, Jessica Mendezona said 31 cats and dogs arrived at their shelter in Harbor Springs Tuesday morning.

The animals will be checked out and then either placed into foster homes or put up for adoption.

The shelter says by taking in these animals, they are able to give extra support to shelters down in Tennessee that are full.

“It’s really important for shelters out of the affected areas to assist by taking adoptable animals from those shelters. When we can open up cages in those shelters, we’re giving them a space to help house those displaced animals and give them a chance for their families to find them,” said Mendezona

The shelter said anyone looking to adopt these animals or other animals they receive locally; you can visit their website by clicking this link .
