“Bottom line, it ain’t working. Of course, one of those guys is getting moved,”. That was the response from Steak Shapiro on Thursday as he reacted to hearing comments from Atlanta Hawks general manager, Landry Fields, who addressed the media on Wednesday and fielded questions in regards to why the franchise decided to move on from Dejounte Murray.

And while Fields told reporters that the Hawks believed that after evaluating “where we’re at” the best decision, though difficult, was to trade Murray in order to help the franchise get to “where we want to be”, the Atlanta GM noted that they do not view the decision bring in the All-Star guard two years ago as a failure.

“We don’t guarantee things too often on our show, but the guarantee was that there was zero chance in a million years that they were coming back with both Dejounte Murray and Trae Young,” Shapiro said as he explained why he believed that Hawks trading Murray to the Pelicans was a clear signal that what Atlanta thought would work, was a failure.

Shapiro added that he absolutely agreed with the Hawks’ original trade with San Antonio to bring in Murray being worth them taking “a shot” as they appeared to be a player away from contending for a title, however believes that the Hawks have to acknowledge that the trade for Murray was indeed a failure.

“You have judge decisions based on results. The results were absolutely the other direction, you got worse. Dejounte and Trae on the court together were worse when they were on there separately. So if you had a crystal ball, of course you have to look back and say we wish we didn’t make the trade,” Shapiro said.
