After hosting Westminster and Chamblee in a day of round robin softball action, Mount Vernon would come out 1-1 on the day, closing out with their third win of the season as they knocked off Chamblee, handing the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.

“I thought the defense was solid in this game and the bats were so much hotter,” Mount Vernon head coach, Mike Edmonson said of his team’s performance in their second game of the day. “We were looking for and getting and swinging at better pitches and it makes all the difference, Edmonson said of the Mustangs’ adjustments after losing to Westminster in game one.

While Mount Vernon is still relatively early on in their season, the young Mustangs are still looking to find their rhythm, however with the win over Chamblee, Edmonson believes can help motivate team. “It was a really strong win for us. They threw their ace, (Gali) and I thought we handled her pretty well. We through our ace (Reese Hickey) and I thought she dominated and did what an ace is going to do,” Edmonson said.

And with 16 regular season games to go, Edmonson says comfort for his young team will be important down the stretch of the season. “It’s really all about getting them comfortable, getting them reps, getting them at bats…they’re starting play more comfortable and I think once that happens, we’re going to turn the corner and go on a run,” Edmonson added.

The Mustangs will go for their second straight win on Tuesday when they host Landmark Christian.
