“Well, you never know. There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field, they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that,” Parton explained. She acknowledged that she hadn’t even realized Beyoncé was not nominated until someone asked her about it.

Parton emphasized that she doesn’t believe Beyoncé was intentionally “shut out” by the CMAs. Instead, she suggested that it may have been a result of focusing on artists who regularly contribute to the country genre. “I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that, that was good. So I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album.”

Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter,” released in March 2024, has been well-received by fans and critics, earning praise for embracing her southern roots. Despite its eligibility for consideration at the CMAs, Beyoncé didn’t receive any nominations for the awards ceremony taking place on Nov. 20.

While the snub has sparked conversation among fans and fellow artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Dolly Parton’s perspective offers insight into the competitive nature of the country music industry and how decisions might have been made. As always, Parton praised Beyoncé’s work and expressed that the artist can be “very, very proud” of her accomplishments in the country genre.
