Chris Brown has been trying to take his talents overseas, but reactions have been mixed. Fresh off his successful 11:11 tour, which supports his 11th studio album, the tour kicked off in Detroit, before concluding in Los Angeles on August 6.

Next, Brown plans to take the tour to South Africa, where ticket sales have been strong. He sold out a 94,000-person stadium in under two hours, leading to the addition of a second show. However, his visit has sparked controversy, with a petition launched by Women for Change on October 2 gathering over 28,000 signatures. The group is asking the South African government and organizers to reconsider allowing Brown to perform, citing his 2009 guilty plea for assaulting Rihanna. South Africa, with high rates of femicide and gender-based violence, has a complicated history regarding these issues.

In addition to this backlash, Brown is also facing renewed scrutiny over past domestic violence allegations, with Liziane Gutierrez, who accused him of assault in 2016, speaking out in a new documentary. Investigation Discovery is set to release Chris Brown: A History of Violence on October 27.
