PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers hold on making enough plays to beat Denver 13-6 on the road on Sunday. Here are the key plays from the game along with a ton of plays affected by penalty.

    Key plays

    ·      3 solid plays by Justin Fields on the Steelers second possession—he hung in the pocket to find George Pickens on a cross for 13 yards on 3 rd and 11. Next play he would beat the blitz with his feet and ran left for 16 yards. He would make a nice touch on a throw to Pat Freiermuth rolling to his left to the Denver 4-yard line setting up the first TD, the first of Darnell Washington’s career, 7-0

    ·      Broncos getting a little momentum and Joey Porter, Junior with a nice pass breakup on 3 rd and 6 to prevent a first down

    ·      Broncos into Steelers territory with a 2 nd and 7, Denver QB Bo Nix is sacked by TJ Watt as he barely got a hand on him, the loss of 8 yards ended the series in a failed 4 th down attempt, 10-0

    ·      Denver’s first possession of second half and on 3 rd and 1, safety DeShon Elliott lines up as a linebacker and busts through the line unblocked to stuff Javonte Williams for a 3-yard loss and forced a punt

    ·      After a 26-yard gainer from Nix to Courtland Sutton for 26 yards, a direct snap to Williams, handoff to Sutton and Nix threw jump ball to Josh Reynolds for 49-yard gain to Steelers 7-yard line

    ·      A play after Donte Jackson left the game with injury, second-year corner Cory Trice picked off Nix in end zone in front of Sutton as Cam Heyward was putting pressure on Nix in third quarter.

    ·      3 rd and 6 in the Steelers red zone and Isaiahh Loudermilk deflected a pass by Nix to force a field goal, 13-3

    ·      Following a couple of offsetting penalties and offsides by Alex Highsmith, TJ Watt with a TFL on Williams for -2 yards and then his pressure on the next play caused a 3 rd down incompletion and punt with 7:48 to play

    · Damontae Kazee with an interception on the final play. Nix threw it up with only one second left.

    Penalties

    ·     After Troy Fautanu started, Broderick Jones came in with the ball at the Steelers one. He would commit a third down false start that the Steelers overcame with a 16-yard out to George Pickens . Then a hold by Jones and as they tried to overcome that, Fields rolled out and made a Top 10 throw in the league this year, a dime where he hit a covered Pickens in stride for 51 yards. That was also wiped out by a Jones hold and he was pulled from the game.

    ·      Steelers driving late in the first half when Fields again threw a nice ball down the right side, Van Jefferson nearly made a one-handed catch, his other hand held by Reilly Moss. The pass interference cost the Broncos 27 yards

    ·      It appeared Pickens scored stretching into the end zone with seven seconds left, but Jefferson called for a pick. CBS rules official Gene Steratore disagreed with the call. Steelers would settle for a FG

    ·      A play after the Trice interception, Patrick Surtain called for pass interference one-on-one with Pickens, gave the Steelers 37 yards and led to a field goal, 13-0 in third quarter

    · Najee Harris gained 9 on first down, but a hold by Connor Heyward on the next play negates a first down and the drive ends up in a punt

    ·      This time it was the other tackle, Dan Moore’s hold wipes out a good third down completion with 9:51 left in the game

    ·      Following an incompletion to Calvin Austin on third down, PJ Locke makes helmet-to-helmet contact for 15 yards, gives Steelers 3 more plays and Broncos have to burn time out
