    Sidney Crosby isn’t going anywhere.

The Penguins captain will continue his career in Pittsburgh for at least another three years.

The team announced on Monday morning that the 37-year-old has signed a two-year extension to stay with the Penguins.

And, Crosby has signed for, you guessed it, $8.7 million, saving the Penguins a huge amount of money.

Crosby could reasonably have asked for $12 million or more a year, giving the Penguins room to spent money to try and win now.

The Penguins have missed the playoffs the past two seasons.

Crosby will be entering his 20 th season in the NHL this upcoming season, is a three-time Stanley Cup Champion, two-time Ross Trophy winner, two-time Hart winner, two-time Conn Smythe winner and countless others.

Currently Crosby’s $8.7 cap hit ranks him 43rd in the league with Patrik Laine and Dylan Larkin. The top five contracts in the NHL right now:

    •         Auston Matthews-Toronto $13.250
    •         Nathan MacKinnon-Colorado $12.6
    •         Connor McDavid-Edmonton $12.5
    •         Artemi Panarin-Rangers $11.642
    •         Elias Pettersson-Vancouver $11.6

“There are no words to properly describe what Sidney Crosby means to the game of hockey, the city of Pittsburgh and the Penguins organization,” said Penguins General Manager Dubas. “Sidney is the greatest player of his generation and one of the greatest players in the history of the game. His actions today show why he is one of hockey’s greatest winners and leaders. Sid is making a tremendous personal sacrifice in an effort to help the Penguins win, both now and in the future, as he has done for his entire career.”

The message is clear from Crosby, he wants to win another Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh.
